Things to do Indoors

There are so many things to do indoors on a grey day this Autumn and Winter!

Browse one of our great bookshops – Forum Books in Whitley Bay or Corbridge are well worth a visit.  Barter Books in Alnwick has open fires, a café and ice cream parlour and is one of the largest second-hand bookshops in Britain.  Or why not try Seven Stories – The National Centre for Children’s Books in Newcastle.

Explore a museum or art gallery – there are so many to choose from.  Discovery Museum, Hancock Museum, Laing Art Gallery, Woodhorn, Life Science Centre, to name a few.

Climb a lighthouse!  Climb the 137 steps to the top of St Mary’s Lighthouse for the most spectacular views of the North East coast.  Or go underground at the Victoria Tunnel in Ouseburn!

Fancy a bit of competition?  Gutterball Bowling Alley is a short drive from us and offers much more than just bowling!  Concordia Leisure Centre also offers bowling, softplay and Clip ‘n’ Climb.

Do a spot of shopping.  Visit the Metrocentre or Eldon Square for bustling high street and independent shops which are mostly undercover.  Love markets? Tynemouth Market is located undercover every Saturday and Sunday and is a brilliant place to explore.

Go to the movies!  The Jam Jar is a wonderful independent cinema located in Whitley Bay or why not try the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle.  We are also lucky to have Everyman, Odeon and Vue cinemas nearby to choose from too.

Book tickets and enjoy a spectacular show at the Theatre Royal, Northern Stage, or the Tyne Theatre.  Love Music?  Then Sage Gateshead, the City Hall or The Cluny are for you!

Get active – go swimming at one of the local pools:  Concordia , Lakeside or Waves.  Get the adrenaline pumping with some indoor karting in Newcastle.  Kids will love ultimate trampolining at Airbox Bounce or having fun at one of the many softplays in the area.

Pop into a local café, pub or restaurant and enjoy open fires, tasty food and good company – take a look at our Facebook page for some great ideas.

Stay indoors at Burradon Farm – all of our cottages are home from home with cosy living rooms perfect for relaxing!  So sit back and snooze, watch a film or play cards with the kids.  Order a takeaway – you can go out tomorrow ?
