What a lovely afternoon in Amble and Warkworth! If you want to get your 10,000+ steps in one go this is a great route!
Take a drive from Burradon Farm along the Coastal Route to avoid the A1. Parking is easy and free in the Amble Braid car park on the outskirts of the town.
We firstly took a stroll to Amble Harbour which is home to a lovely selection of shopping pods. Perfect for picking up local gifts or treats during your visit.
A quick stop off at the delicious Spurreli boutique icecream parlour to fuel up before our walk because … why not?!
We then headed towards Warkworth along the estuary. There are magnificent views of Warkworth Castle en route as well as beautiful herons, swans and ducks doing their thing on the river.
We passed a few sculptures on the way – check out the Amble Bord Waalk, a sculpture trail inspired by the birdlife of the Northumberland Coast.
When we reached Warkworth we were greeted by the magnificent sight of Warkworth Castle. A visit for another day!
We couldn’t resist a quick browse in The Greenhouse – they have some lovely gift ideas! Next stop Bertrams for refreshments and cake in their pretty courtyard – it’s dog friendly too.
Time to head back – past St Lawrence’s Church and along the pretty riverside. The riverside route is so tranquil and pretty, with birds and wildlife all around.
When you reach Warkworth Hermitage it’s time to take a left turn up the hill and follow the quiet road and pathways back towards the castle.
It’s downhill from here – all the way along the estuary with views towards the sea, back to Amble. There’s plenty of places to grab a bite to eat before heading home again for a well earned rest!
