Great North Run 2020

COVID-19 UPDATE – SADLY THE GREAT NORTH RUN HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO SUNDAY 12 SEPTEMBER 2021.  FOR THOSE PLANNING AHEAD, WE WILL BE HAPPY TO TAKE RESERVATIONS FOR 2021!

The date for the 40th Great North Run 2020 is now confirmed as Sunday 13 September 2020.  If you would like to take part the ballot is now open!  Make sure you enter by 9.00 pm on 9th February 2020 so you don’t miss out.  Since 1981 over 1.2 million people have taken part, making it the world’s biggest and best half marathon.

Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne the 13.1 mile route takes runners through the city and over the iconic Tyne Bridge.  Runners then travel through Gateshead while being entertained by Bands on The Run! The route is lined by thousands of supporters and leads runners towards South Shields.  The view of the sea from the top of Prince Edward Road is a welcome sight.  From that point there is just over a mile to go towards the finish line and your well deserved medal!

2019 saw lots of Great North Runners (and supporters) staying at Burradon Farm, just a 20 minute drive from the start line.  There are buses direct from Burradon into Newcastle City Centre.  Two Metro stations with park and ride facilities are also within 10 minutes drive.  This makes us an ideal place to stay for the Great North Run 2020.

Lovely weather, a cool breeze and the support of thousands along the route helped last years’ runners reach the finish line.  Fingers crossed for another incredible day in the North East in 2020!

We get lots of repeat bookings for the GNR weekend.  With accommodation sleeping from 1 – 8 people you can enjoy a weekend away with family or friends.  We are taking accommodation bookings now for this popular weekend – don’t miss out!
